Our passion was always to farm. In 2008, we got exposed to the teachings of Graeme Sait of Nutri-Tech Solutions (NTS) that developed a groundbreaking system which slashes chemical reliance, rejuvenates soil, boosts plant vitality, and elevates human health. Soil was never seen the same again, it was certainly not something that just kept your plants upright, it was a whole new world that came alive. A world of mineralization, biological transmutation, nitrogen fixings, biological nematode control, Albrecht method, brix, compost, compost teas, multispecies cover crops, mob grazing, plant sap analysis and many more concepts was opened up. We have also learned how to use biology to compete directly with the chemical industry. Most of our farming soils are in imbalance and this results in high fertilizer costs and low yields. The thin veil of topsoil that grows our food is fast diminishing.

Our approach at Shortlands Agri is to build around nutritional farming practice, where we strive for a reduction of fertiliser and chemical applications to combat insects and weed infestation. We focus on restoring and enhancing the soil and plant health to enable it to achieve the intended optimal yield and crop quality. We work on concepts that the key to sustainable agricultural farming is to know the active carbon in the soils. We measure plant sap on the farm on a weekly basis and do our recommendations accordingly. To determine the actual element shortages in the plant is essential to the plant’s development. Shortlands are committed to improving profitability for farmers. Food production is the most important of all professions and farmers must be nurtured, protected and supported in every way. Farming needs to be more profitable, more sustainable and more fun and we are passionately producing strategies and inputs to help achieve these goals. We work with farmers to create more profitable, productive farming enterprises across South Africa.
